DIY Live Gatecrashing Video Solution!!

October 31, 2008 Sean Seah Leave a comment

Yo folks, I was gonna wire a lllloooooooong cable from the living room to the brides room when it struck me. Y not use 2 laptops with wireless LAN? All you need is the freebie SKYPE, and 1 webcam enabled laptop n you are done!Place the laptop in the living room, run an extension of the USB cable to the webcam and peg it to the window grill. This should work for most households. Logitech makes pretty good webcams for sub SGD100.

The other will be in the room and the bride can see and even hear!! all these for FOC!! Nice right? Oh but please dun say you do not need a VG cuz you can record the webcam videos.. They SUCK!! No match for our big cameras ya.. Size DOES matters sometimes =)

Right, here are the highlights with William Chua. Uploading has been a torture due to the transistion of the video server recently. Its going to take a while so I will not be able to post new videos so often until that is fixed. Hopefully, by Nov?

Steadycam Questions

October 20, 2008 Sean Seah Leave a comment

I had some questions today on the steadycam. Just to help the folks who wanna know more, below are some details on the rig.

- Item must be purchased from US or check with Joe from Expandore if they have any

- DDP price is estimated at SGD6.5k for the Pilot. For lower budgets, I would recommend the Glidecam smoothshooter (X10 for dual arm) or Indicam Pilot (REALLY budget and does the job with a great sled 2nd to the Pilot)

- Expandore carries the Glidecam and you can see the real thing. Hmm, maybe I should do a full review on that next time.

- If your cam is below 3kg go for the handheld Steadycam Merlin which costs SGD1.5k odd from Cathey Photo. You can upgrade to the full rig for another SGD3.5k. But you cannot buy the Pilot sled individually!

PhotoVideoi Contribution

October 20, 2008 Sean Seah Leave a comment

I was given an opportunity to contribute articles on Videography to the PhotoVideoi magazine. They are essentially the Hardware Magazine team and really nice guys. I’ll be writing stuff every month on some equipment I deal with. I’m not the most qualified guy around but I do understand a good portion of prosumer folks, being one myself. Hence my reviews will be targeted to help prosumers decide on what to buy hopefully. After all, I am always looking for folks to seek advise before any purchase.

The first article is out in Oct 08 copy titled, “Woah.. Steady Boy!”. Its about stabilisers. I wanted to make a video for some sample shots but I could not completed it because of my big day. So I decided to make a combo from the stuff I have.

Sorry to the folks who came earlier here to have a look! This are not my best reels but you know what the steadycam can do now. There is in fact a lot more that it can do =)

Korea is cold..

October 13, 2008 Sean Seah Leave a comment

Just returned from dinner near the City Hall of Seoul. Winter is around the corner and the weather has turned chilly. Luckily the nice Ginseng Chicken Restuarant is just round the corner and the hot soup was a luxury. I wonder how the poor soldiers do their sentry duties in the harsh winter. Lucky us SG soldiers.. we only have the nice hot sun and some mosquitos!

Shawn & Sook Yee AD

October 13, 2008 Sean Seah Leave a comment

By a twist, I got this job pretty late (as u see I wrote I will take a break!) as Dino asked so I met up with them. Shawn and Sook Yee are a loving couple and I was very touched by their wedding. I could tell they really love each other and it was so sweet when Shawn took to the piano to sing a song for Sook Yee. It was my first job with PG William Chua and he was cool! I am beginning to think that those WPA chaps are probably a bunch of very cool people! Oh well, I have to get a chance to work with the other 9 first ;p

William’s photos are very good too. I had the fortune to work them into the video with Dino’s blessing. Stay tuned for the highlights video!

EX3 Workout

October 12, 2008 Sean Seah Leave a comment

I woke up early today to try out the EX3 which was on loan to me for the weekend. It is sooooo heavy! The matte box and follow focus are REALLY nice thou. Great for indie movies but not weddings. Very similar to EX1. I’m a lot happier to keep my EX1 now that I have a taste of the equipment.

A lot of curious joggers were wondering what I was doing. So paisei…

8Ft Crane

8Ft Crane

Hey hey I dug up this photo from last year. This is a crane and it helps to shoot those high to low shots.. u know, like shooting the leaves from the trees and slowly coming down to the subject? Really nice BUT it is so tough to set it up alone. (I think I hurt myself once) I would love to put one of these at a wedding for the march in but the guest would prob run away ;p
